Calkulin E4GT ROM for Rooted Epic 4G Touch Galaxy S2! [SPH-D710][Best Gingerbread ROM]

Want great battery life and performance without overclocking?

If so, and you want to keep most of TouchWiz UI, check out Calkulin’s latest E4GT ROM, which does exactly that.

I’ve been actually been following Calkulin’s kernels and ROMs for quite awhile now and I have to say his latest ROMs are probably one of the best right now.

One of the coolest features? You get faster speeds without any overclocking, easily scoring higher than 4000 on Quadrant.

So, don’t wait, if you are looking for good battery life and performance, flash this and let me know how it goes for you!

UPDATE: Sprint Hotspot 3G/4G works fine actually, and also great battery life, this is the best ROM to use on your Epic 4G Touch for now, upgrading this post status to “sticky”.

I really didn’t like this one… didn’t have it on very long though. I had some bugs and I got annoyed with it. I tried to see how much I could do with it. It didn’t like my gowigets themes! Some apps wouldn’t install or work after installation. I just went back to EL29.

really? i loved this ROM, weir.d

    • Bill says:

I am on EL29.. having problems with version 3.0. My phone is dropping calls / getting really crummy reception. Screen turns off at 15-30sec even though its set for 2 mins. Screen power on/off is glitchy. I’m going back to an older version.

      • MeMyselfAndroid says:

Mine keeps popping up FC after I flash upgrade from a 1.6 Calkulin rom.
Black screen. Is there a fix?

  3. chris says:

Anybody else having problem with clockworkmod with this rom?

    • B-Rad says:

CWM does not work with ICS. Find and download Rogue ET Recovery from Team Rogue. It works on ICS just like CWM did on earlier android versions.

  4. Lance says:

    Max,

This Calkulin ROM is not as fast the Senzation ROM you preview a while back, and I try to restore my settings with “Backup Master” app and it freezes.

  5. aaron says:

  6. Robs says:

This is the first rom ive evertried to flash onto my phone.i tried using clockworkmod but it just put me in recovery mode with the droid and an exclamation point in a yellow triangle. Is that supposed to happen?

  7. Hustler539 says:

So I’m confused. Are there any requirements before rooting with this rom?? Do I need to have EL29?
I am currently rooted with the SPH-D710_Zedomax_EpicTouchKernel-v3 on EG30.
Anyone please help, as I would love to give this one a try.

    • AndroidMan says:

Step One: Odin One Click back to stock root (EL29) – Find on Google.
Step Two: Download and install CWM Recovery (Rogue) on your E4GT.
Step Three: Place the Calkulin’s Epic 4G Touch file you download from above on either your internal storage or SD card. (By connecting to PC and drag/drop onto phone, I usually make a folder).
Step Four: Reboot into your recover, Volume up and power button until you see the “Samsung Galaxy SII” logo.

OPTINAL: Wipe cache partition, dalvik-cache, etc. before next step. (I typically do this.)

Step Five: Find the rom file where it is saved and select it. (Use volume keys to navigate the menu and power button to select)

Step Six: Select “Reboot” from the menu and enjoy! =)

      Hope this helps?

Excellent rom. followed instructions carefully for rooting and this rom is working great. excellent speed on all downloads. Battery life is still to be determined as i have only had it for about a day and the battery life still seems as it was before. Having the hotspot available is a hugh plus for me. this comes just ad described near stock with all of the added speed and none of the bloated software. the nice part about this mod is that he also provides the bloat software that he removed in case you want to add it back on the the phone but i do not see that point. Thank you for all of your clear instructions and the videos save my life.keep them coming.

  9. Indra says:

Hi, I am from Indonesia and I’d like to flash (?) this Calkulin E4GT ROM to my Epic 4G Touch do I need to install it using ODIN or I can copy the zip file to my memory card I run it using clockworkmod since I already install the software.
And I believe it will not delete all my datas and applications or will it
    Sorry for my bad english

  10. Robert says:

Can’t seem to get USB Host for OTG working with this ROM.. Is it enabled ?

  11. Manuel says:

I am really liking this from except for one thing… doesn’t come with voice command and voice talk. Wish I could get certain stock apps…

    • Taures says:

Look in your Removed_apps folder under sdcard. You should see vlingo.apk. This will install your voice command.

  12. Mark says:

rom works good but there’s one minor problem I’m getting. The voicemail app is not working. Keeps giving me error randomly. Is there a way to fix that? Thanks

  13. seth says:

Just rooted using stock EL29, installed rouge, and installed this rom… My phone is sick now!!! Why would anyone get an iphone??? Wifi hot spot working like a charm, using it right now with my laptop to post this comment!!!

    • Josh says:

That sounds sick…I want to do the same but want to do it with someone who has already been through the process. Could you help me through this? Last time I tried to flash a ROM my fucking phone BRICKED on my HTC EVO and I couldn’t ever figure out how to restore the phone…it was miserable. Let me know…Thank you sir!

      iPhones SUCK

      • B-Rad says:

There are videos on this site which give clear, precise instructions on how to perform the initial rooting, and from what I’ve seen, every single rom has an accompanying video with clear, precise instructions, or at least written step by step.

had a not so pleasant expierience with this rom, horrible battery life, had perfect battery life running on rooted stock before flashing a rom, mind you this is my 1st time going all the way, will try again and research more, tips on good battery life with this rom? where do you get the battery savings scripts that he mentions (or whats the best kernel, modem, etc)

  15. ClintW says:

Has anyone gotten sprint google voice integration to work with this rom?

    • TheStumblingBlock says:

I tried and it told me no.

    • TheStumblingBlock says:

In fact I wish someone would compound a list of roms that GV Integration app runs on so it won’t be such a damned guessing game. Only one I know that works it is Codename, and that thing is a deathtrap for phones.

  16. Andre says:

I tried the rom but realized my exhcange calendar and contacts wouldn’t sync. I used the fix to put an older version of the exchange and email apks and that worked. I couldn’t see the contact history with this rom not sure if was because of the workaround to get exchange working. I flashed back to EL29 for now.

I score 6000 no oc. 4k is shit tier

  18. Zack says:

does this ROM come with Golauncher?

  19. Biff says:

Love this ROM! It is pretty sick but battery life is not better. It is in fact pretty horrible. I took it off the charger 2 hours ago and have made 1 phone call and battery is down to 88% Feel like I have to keep the charger plugged in all the time. Seems like it’s actually worse than it was before I rooted the phone. I got double the battery life on EL29 rooted. But every con has it’s pros. 3g/4g hotspot hack is frickin amazing. I’m going to be keeping this ROM on my phone just for that reason. My son has a kindle fire that is pretty much useless without internet so now he can get on the internet no matter where we go. Anything we can do to help the poor battery life on this thing?

    • Jenn says:

I was wondering how you were able to tether the kindle fire? What is different with this ROM, compared to stock-root ROM, as far as the tethering? I have my phone stock rooted, with ‘wireless tether’ installed, have it set up as a non ad-hoc tether (as kindle requires) and my Fire still will not find my phone. Like you said, the kindle fire can be pretty much useless without internet, and this has been so frustrating for me! Thanks

      • Biff says:

You can’t tether the fire. What I was referring to was the 3g/4g wifi hotspot that is enabled with this ROM. What this does is broadcasts your phone’s data connection as a wifi signal much like your wireless router at home would do and allows the fire to connect to the internet through your phone wirelessly. However Since I posted this I have gotten pretty sick of the crappy battery life and have since unrooted. Now I have triple the battery life running on stock kernel and my son just has to live without no internet on the fire.

I’ve tried several types of headphones where tapping the headphone doesn’t skip to the next track in the music player. Definite turn off, everything else seems to work

  21. Jon says:

ROM is good and bad. system seems to freeze now and then. some apps wont install. i might go to a different rom but i dont know what i should go to. any suggestions?

  22. garrett says:

The minute I started up this rom, there was an instant recognizable increase in speed. The ui is very smooth and download speeds and browsing speeds have increased. Thank you very much for creating this. I look forward to see ing great work in the future.

    • garrett says:

I did find one flaw with this rom. The battery life is very inconsistent. Sometimes I will get more than 24 hours to a single charge, yet other times I will notice the battery dropping very rapidly. (just about 1 percent decrease per minute)

  23. James says:

Is it supposed to be running at 1.0 ghz (according to antutu)?

  24. Garron says:

What do I need to do in order to root from stock phone? Had old phone replaced, and need to update with ICS… THANK YOU

  25. marc says:

First time flashing. Works great. But the only issue I have is that the email and social hub keeps force closing. This started to happening mid way threw the day.. is there a for this? How do I clear the cache?

  26. Elaine says:

I love the ROM, except I am not getting good battery life at all. If I unplug it and leave it for 4 hours, it goes to 62%. The only account syncing is gmail and I did a battery calibration after flashing. I am not sure if the ROM I flashed has a new kernel or not, but what my phone says is weird to me: Kerner version: 3.0.15-sph-dh710.fe22-cl612283se.infra@sep-99 #3. What is that? Do I need to use Odin to flash a new kernel to improve battery life? All I did before was use Calkulin’s all-format and then flash his E4gt through ROM manager.

Also, I noticed a weird issue with Handcent with this Rom. When I want to send a text to two people, I start to add the first person, say start typing “Di” for diana and Diana pops up, I click Diana and then when I go on to start the next person’s name, say Susie, I type “su” and it puts in the “Di” from before right in front so it says “Disu”. I have to delete and start the second name again. It does this every single time. Really weird.

  27. Sheldon says:

Went from EL29 to this and absolutely love it. Had some bugs on initial install, a quick fix with CWM fix permissions. It is the fastest phone i have ever seen now, escpecially with NOVA Launchers Settings on “faster than light” in the “look and feel” menu. On to the battery saving, it is great not a massive difference but I’ve noticed 2-3 hours more on a full charge with wifi active constantly while streaming radio.

  28. Lui says:

Anyone else experiencing a weird 4G mine connects yhan disconnects on its own so it’s like I can’t turn on my 4G because it’s either searching or it has no 4G signal any help…

  29. Leland says:

Is anybody else not getting really low quadrant scores? If so how did you fix it? I’m getting scores around 2444. Let me know if you can help. Thank you.

So is rooting an Android phone the same thing as jailbreaking an iPhone?
